ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW
The Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties has been creating lasting value for our communities for more than 35 years. With permanent endowment now totaling $138 million, the Foundation accepts contributions from individuals, families, businesses, corporations and other foundations in support of community initiatives, special projects and permanent endowment. POSITION OVERVIEW
The Intern will work closely with Foundation staff to provide program and administrative support as needed and to complete assigned projects. Intern projects will center on: 1) writing and researching, so as to produce program and general communications materials for the Foundation; and 2) the work of assisting in general office tasks, including: database maintenance, mailings, convening support and filling constituent requests.
The Foundation seeks candidates with high levels of proficiency in computer technology, including word-processing, database management and inner-office computer networking. The Intern must be detail-oriented, well organized and willing to give close attention to quality. It is important that the Intern is flexible, dependable and works well with others; is able to meet deadlines; and has excellent written and oral communication skills.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
The Foundation seeks candidates interested in growing and expanding their knowledge and skills through service in the philanthropic sector. While work experience and study in the non-profit sector would be helpful, candidates will be selected for their talent, ability to perform, dedication, and capacity for future development and growth. Key selection criteria are listed below.
• Effective and professional communication skills, including excellent writing abilities;
• Experience and proficiency in computer technologies and software including Windows XP, WORD, Outlook, Excel, Internet research, PageMaker or InDesign, Photoshop, etc.—The Foundation seeks a proactive learner willing to absorb the new computer skills and technologies required for optimum performance in the position;
• Ability to provide dependable, timely performance with quality results; and,
• Ability to prioritize and administer multiple tasks.
SPECIFICS
Description of typical duties/assignments:
· Using foundation database software to produce financial and program reports and create reference files about nonprofit organizations
· Research of online periodicals for demographic trends, community issues, identification of emerging nonprofit organizations, and other information
· Assisting staff in producing financial information, reports, budgets, pre and post-grant evaluations, research for advised funds and community funds, mailing to grantees and grant seekers, and other projects
· Working with program department staff and advisory committees in production of meeting materials and review of grant proposal and grant distributions
· Basic office duties and other responsibilities as assigned
This is a part-time position beginning immediately. Flexibility in scheduling can be negotiated to accommodate academic/personal needs within the constraints of the Foundation’s five day work week and operating hours from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The position is based in West Palm Beach at the Foundation’s offices, and pays hourly wages determined by the applicant’s related experience.
