Palm Beach and Martin Counties are home to people of all ages and experiences seeking to make a difference. How can nonprofits engage these diverse generations effectively in volunteering and civic engagement? In April of 2008, The Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties was one of eight community foundations awarded a $25,000 grant as part of the Community Experience Partnership, an initiative for U.S. community foundations from The Atlantic Philanthropies, to conduct a community assessment of barriers and opportunties for civic engagement of older adults. The Foundation was particularly interested in looking at the spectrum of multigenerational offerings in the community to build on the older generation’s incredible wealth of knowledge and experience as a means to both teach and learn intergenerationally. The results will be rolled out at a sold-out free event on July 27. Video and more information on the event will be available soon.
